Aashram Chapter 2 Review: Bobby Deol Starrer Cult-Based Drama Gets More Intense As Female Victims Plot Revenge Against Baba Nirala

Prakash Jha's series Aashram is back and this time around we learn more about Kaashipur Wale Baba Nirala, born as Monty Singh, and how he rose to power. Victims of the godman join forces and hit back, wanting to get evidence against Baba Nirala’s debauchery. Aashram stars Bobby Deol as Baba Nirala, and the second season takes off where the first one left. The godman and his chief enforcer Bhopa (Chandan Roy Sanyal) had won over their opponents. A devotee had been castrated at the behest of Babaji, who then raped his wife Babita (Tridha Choudhary).

Police officers Ujagar (Darshan Kumar), Sadhu (Vikram Kochhar), doctor Natasha (Anupriya Goenka) and Akki (Rajeev Siddhartha) are trying their best to gather evidence against Baba Nirala so as to take him down. One of the more interesting characters, Babita, pretends to be a willing devotee of Babaji, but is plotting revenge against him while also looking out for her sister-in-law Pammi (Aaditi Pohankar). Perhaps one of the most powerful parts of the series was the women seeking revenge against Baba Nirala. Pammi, Kavita, also have an awakening, and they are among those trying to get evidence to dethrone the godman.

Unlike the first season which touches upon several social issues at the same time, this season focuses on two of Baba Nirala’s dark crimes- sexual exploitation and smuggling of drugs. It is a nine-episode series, with each episode of about 30-35 minutes, and in some places, it feels like the pace is rather slow, however, going ahead, it gets much more interesting and fast-paced as more layers are added to the plot. Bobby Deol once again does justice to his character, Baba Nirala, who isn’t really a ‘godman’ but a ‘conman’. However, it was the women who stand out! Aditi Pohankar, Tridha Choudhury, Anurita Jha, Preeti Sood, and Anupriya Goenka delivered stellar performances that made the series more riveting.

Aashram Chapter 2 is all about Baba Nirala’s victims planning revenge against him, and the show will keep you on the edge of the seat as you keep guessing about Baba Nirala’s true agenda. The series has released on MX Player, and is streaming for free. It is a one-time watch, and we give this series 3 out of 5 stars.
